Vmware Horizon View Protocol Failure

I'm unsure which version of Horizon we're running in our environment. I will reach out to the team responsible for more info. I'm running version 4.8.1 of the Horizon Client, but I will upgrade to 4.9.0 and see if that corrects the issue. Update: Using v4.9.0 did not correct the issue. The vPC has been rebooted. You notice that various virtual desktops in your VMware Horizon View 5.3 environment displays Protocol failure as the Status in the View Administrator: Solution. The following KB does a good job of explaining the various reasons why a Protocol failure would be displayed as the Status in the View Administrator.

  • In View Administrator, the desktop reports the status error:
    Configuration Error
    or
    Protocol Failure
  • The entitled user is able to connect to the desktop using PCoIP, but cannot connect using Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP).
  • The Protocol failure state may be displayed when VMware Horizon HTML Access failed but PCoIP and RDP are working and the desktops are available and View Client devices can access them through PCoIP or RDP.
  • In the debug logs, you see entries similar to:
    PROTOCOL><PROTOCOL><NAME>RGS</NAME><PORT>42966</PORT><STATUS>unavailable
    </STATUS><ERROR-CODE>PROTOCOL_ERR_PORT_NOT_LISTENING</ERROR-CODE></PROTOCOL><PROTOCOL><NAME>PCOIP</NAME><PORT>0</PORT>
    <STATUS>negotiate</STATUS></PROTOCOL> <AGENTREADY>true</AGENTREADY><ACCEPTINGCONNECTIONS>false
    </ACCEPTINGCONNECTIONS><ERROR-CODE>AGENT_ERR_PROTOCOL_FAILURE
    Note: The preceding log excerpts are only examples. Date, time, and environmental variables may vary depending on your environment.
  • In the PCOIP logs, you may see entries similar to:
    MM/DD/YYYY, 07:51:31.773> LVL:0 RC:-500 IMG_FRONTEND :cSW_HOST_FRONTEND::open_display - Error attaching to SVGADevTap, error 1: Failed

  1. VMware Blog Post Deep Dive into VMware Horizon Blast Extreme Adaptive Transport – Blast Extreme Adaptive Transport is enabled by default in VMware Horizon View 7.1 and Horizon Client 4.4. If the clients are connecting from outside the demilitarized zone (DMZ), you would also need to have VMware Unified Access Gateway (not Security Server) to.
  2. Dec 26, 2016 As a part of my project I was working with VMware Horizon View 7 with VSAN Datastore where I got a chance to learn APP VOLUME and INSTANT CLONING feature by VMware. These features really interesting where VMware tried beat other VDI competitors I had created a pool of 250 virtual desktops with some task.
Note: These symptoms apply only to a virtual machine, and not to a physical computer.
